In the 1969 movie "Midnight Cowboy" the Brenda Vaccaro character used the term "gay" when she teased Joe Buck for not being able to perform sexually. But I didn't notice the word when I saw the movie in that year. It was only when watching it a few weeks ago that I noticed "gay" being used as a way of identifying a person as homosexual.
